1. Bordeaux secret & ‘must know’ places: city wine guide
Recently in le Bulletin newsletter, I wrote about ‘Paris is not France: France is not Paris’ which has been a popular topic. I undertook to share more newsletters and articles about magic places in France outside Paris and I will... And I recalled an article which I wanted to share with you. It’s written by Alexis Herrington, while she was working with me, from Bordeaux.
Many people enjoy Bordeaux, a city where you can appreciate many things including Haussmanian architecture. Whilst Bordeaux has been described as a mini-Paris, in reality, it is very much its own city. I find the scale of Bordeaux to be very comfortable, manageable, and relaxed, and being the capital of such a well-respected wine region, it’s a great place to enjoy exploring what wine contributes to the city.
Bordeaux was once known as “la belle endormie” (Sleeping Beauty). However, in the past decade or more, the city has awakened as dynamic and beautiful thanks to major investments in infrastructure and culture.
While Bordeaux is the sixth city in France in terms of population, it ranks just after Paris in its number of monuments. There’s much to discover in this mid-sized city filled to the brim with history, culture, and of course, wine.
